Linda Welsh
I am an Artist currently working in the Southern Appalachians in Asheville, North Carolina.
A deep love of nature began early in life with family camping trips and later a career begun at NC State’s School of Natural Resources which led to U.S. Forest Service work, first as a Forest Wilderness and Wild and Scenic River Ranger, and later as a Firefighter.
The Chattooga region became my home, I vowed to dip into her waters during each and every full moon and I kept the vow year round.
Years in the field of forest resources, I found an opportunity to work with the State Parks of Maine as Ranger at Ferry Beach State Park, on the beautiful coastline where loons floating on the waves greeted me each morning.
I left Forestry to become a full time single mother in ‘88 and delighted in the wonders of a beautiful baby girl - featured in several of my paintings and photographs. I went on the operate an in home day care, then studied newborn nursing and spent several decades working at a local hospital. I assisted thousands of families on one of their most memorable days. Sum total, I served over 50,000 families. After leaving the hospital, I worked for REI, happily outfitting myself with all the gear I could possibly need to return to camping.
In more recent years, I went back to school and earned my Fine Arts degree, then narrowed my focus to 2D art, painting en plein air, outdoors. A side job, bread and butter, includes working as a Wellness Coach and a Personal Trainer at our local YMCA.
I have found abundant sources of creative expression throughout my life, and I am deeply grateful. You can imagine the joy in this Ranger’s heart, immersed in nature and painting,
I'm smiling.
